Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, draws thousands of trekkers to Nepal each year. Among the many trekking routes, the Ama Dablam with Everest Base Camp Trek is a special one, taking you to both Everest Base Camp (EBC) and Ama Dablam Base Camp. While reaching EBC is the main goal for most, Ama Dablam Base Camp, sitting at the base of the stunning "Mother’s Necklace" mountain, is just as breathtaking.

The trek offers incredible views of peaks like Lhotse, Pumori, and Thamserku. Along the way, you’ll pass through Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO-listed area home to rare wildlife like Red Pandas and Himalayan Tahr. Since it’s a protected zone, you’ll need permits such as the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and Khumbu Rural Municipality Entry Permit to trek here.

To navigate, the Ama Dablam with Everest Base Camp Trek map is a great guide. It shows key trekking stops like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Gorakshep, along with routes, landmarks, and altitude details. This makes it easier to plan your journey and pace yourself through the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes.

Trip Explanation: Ama Dablam with Everest Base Camp Trek

The Ama Dablam with Everest Base Camp Trek starts in Kathmandu, where trekkers take a short flight or helicopter to Lukla—a thrilling 45-minute ride over the Himalayas. After landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport, the trek begins with a walk to Phakding, a small village by the Dudh Koshi River.

From Phakding, the trail leads to Namche Bazaar, passing through Monjo, where permits are checked at the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. Namche is the heart of the Everest region, packed with cafes, bakeries, and shops. Trekkers spend an extra day here to adjust to the altitude, often hiking up to the Everest View Hotel for a glimpse of Everest.

The journey continues to Phortse, a peaceful village near Khumjung, known for the Khumbu Climbing Center (KCC). Then, it’s on to Pangboche, home to the Pangboche Monastery, one of the oldest in the region.

A major highlight is reaching Ama Dablam Base Camp, sitting below the stunning Ama Dablam peak. The view is breathtaking, with snow-capped mountains like Lhotse, Pumori, and Island Peak all around. After enjoying the scenery, trekkers return to Pangboche for the night before heading to Dingboche, a village with spectacular views of Everest.

Next is Lobuche, offering up-close sights of Lobuche East and West. The trek then moves to Gorak Shep, the last stop before reaching Everest Base Camp (EBC). Standing at the foot of the world’s tallest mountain is a once-in-a-lifetime moment, with plenty of chances to take photos at the famous Everest Base Camp rock.

For the best view of Everest, trekkers hike to Kala Patthar, a high viewpoint offering incredible sights of Everest, Khumbu Glacier, and Icefall, especially at sunrise and sunset.

The return journey takes trekkers through Pheriche, Namche, and back to Lukla, where they catch a flight to Kathmandu, officially ending an unforgettable adventure marking the end of the Ama Dablam with Everest Base Camp trek with Nepal Trekking Planner
