Introduction: Annapurna Short Trek - 2 Days

Annapurna Short Trek an enjoyable walk of a few days takes you to cooler refreshing mountain air around green hills. A great escape from the busy city life around a serene environment, where the air is pure and fresh.

Annapurna short Hike, suitable for all types of people and age-group without any hassle and problem of altitude sickness. The only stressful and tough part is walking uphill for a few hours, which is normal around Himalayas countries.

Interesting short hiking to the high hills of southern Annapurna region, exploring farm villages, walking into lovely woodland. Then reaching on the top scenic ridge and into a flat green meadow at Australian Camp, the local name is Thuli Kharka. Once a summer grazing field of local cattle herders, since the flow of trekking began. Then few lodges flourished to cater to the trekkers, and then an Australian Annapurna Expedition Camped on this spot. Hence the name tagged as Australian Camp in the early 1980’s, a beautiful place for outstanding views of snow peaks.

From the Australian camp enjoy the glorious sunrise reflecting over an array of peaks of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu Himalaya range. After pleasant overnight head downhill and visit the village of Potana, situated amidst beautiful forest surroundings. Facing grand views of Annapurna peaks with majestic Mt. Machhapuchare is the famous Fish-Tail peak with an array of the mountain range.

The last walk leads down to Dhampus, a large Gurung village with a superb panorama of the Mid-Western Himalayan range. As walk head to long descends at the bottom of Dhampus hill for a short exciting drive back to Pokhara. After an enjoyable and mesmerizing experience on Annapurna Short Hiking.

What to expect during Short Annapurna Base Camp Trekking?

A typical short Annapurna Base Camp Trekking day in the Annapurna region involves walking through forested areas and passing numerous villages. On the first day, you will take a one-hour drive from Pokhara. During the hour’s drive, you will pass through farm terraces and cool forest to reach Australian Camp.

The following day, you will have an early-morning sunrise, welcomed by a golden sun rising above the Annapurna Mountain Range. Then you will begin the downhill walk through the forest area to reach Dhampus. The trekking trail is well-marked with stone steps and village trails. Be sure to know that you will need to walk at least 2-4 hours per day.

In terms of food and accommodation, you can expect a variety of Nepalese cuisine, including Dal Bhat, Momo, Noodles, Chowmein, Fried rice, Potato items, and more. Also, there are options for western cuisines like Pizza, Pasta, Burgers, and others, but be sure to know that these options might be limited.

Then, for accommodation, you will spend the night in local lodges or teahouses, depending on your personal interests. Your overnight stop will be basic, which is equipped to keep you warm and comfortable. You will need to prepare accordingly, as nights can be cold even in the warmer season.

Also know that the mountains can have unpredictable weather conditions. The best thing is to pack all the essentials you may need to keep your body warm and comfortable. The weather can change quickly, but a clear morning is mostly common. But it doesn’t mean you will have to overpack, just pack smartly to cope with any sudden changes, but firstly choose the right season for travel.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Best Time

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek best time can be all year round in Nepal. As the Short Annapurna Hike is limited to two days, it is not necessarily a major concern to spend the days at the appropriate time. However, for those who wish to spend time in the best season, spring and autumn are the most favorable times.

Spring is considered one of the best times for trekking in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The spring season lasts from March to May. It is marked by blooming rhododendron forests and vibrant weather conditions. The temperature is mild, which offers a comfortable walking experience. The day is also longer during spring, so hikers can walk for longer hours and cover longer distances.

Similarly, the entire Annapurna region is wonderful during spring. The lush green forests and vegetation portray 360-degree views of mountain peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchre. The average daytime temperature ranges from 18-22 degrees Celsius, which can be lower at night.

Another good season for the Annapurna Himalayan Hike is autumn. The autumn season in Nepal lasts from September to November. It marks stable weather conditions and a comfortable walking experience. The temperature is moderate, ranging from 17-25 degrees Celsius in the daytime, while the night temperature can be a little lower. The autumn months have less precipitation and snow, making the sky clear and blue. This provides an unobstructed view of mountain peaks and ranges in the Annapurna region.

While spring and autumn are the best seasons for trekking, summer, also called monsoon, and winter are called not-so-favorable times for trekking or simply off-season for the Annapurna short hike route. A monsoon is characterized by heavy rainfall, fog, and extremely hot weather conditions. Similarly, winter is characterized by snowfall and extreme cold temperatures. The weather conditions obstruct the view of mountains, making walking at higher altitudes difficult. The trails become slippery, causing potential danger for hikers. Thus, these seasons are suitable for hardcore trekkers who wish to face harsh climatic conditions, choose to tackle a challenging landmark and get an adrenaline rush through trekking.

Local Culture and Religion of Annapurna short hiking

The hills tribes of Annapurna Himalaya are the Gurung people, spread around all high hills, valleys of Annapurna Himalaya to Lamjung Himal range. Gurung follows the Buddhism religion and similar culture and heritage of Tibetan predecessors. Gurung also practices the ancient cult of Bon religion, pre-Buddhism worship of nature, and mountain spirits. Every house around Gurung villages is adorned with Buddhist prayer flags, called Lung-Ta, the Wind Horse.

Annapurna Region Climate and Weather

Himalayan climate can be unpredictable sometimes even in good best seasons, where April and May to first week of June will be the best time during spring times, when days are longer with enough sunlight hours.

Morning and night time as well in shade can be cold and much freezing temperatures around higher areas above 1,800 m.

Other months from September to December another great times for treks around Annapurna region and other areas of Himalaya, when days are clear for views and to summit the top of the peak, although much colder months of autumn season with extreme cold during morning and night time, where sunlight is much shorter.
