Muktinath Helicopter Tour - 1 Day
Trip Introduction: Muktinath Helicopter Tour
Muktinath Helicopter Tour, one of the most fascinating and scenic trips, is an adventure of a lifetime. Chopper takes you around beautiful areas of the Mustang Region within Nepal's Far West Himalayas.
The Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour by helicopter will be a fantastic journey of a few hours between Annapurna's massive mountain range and Dhaulagiri, listed as the world's tenth and seventh highest peaks.
The word 'Muktinath' literally means 'Salvation' or 'Liberty' to relieve you from the birth cycle or free you from harmful and evil/wrongdoing, where Hindu pilgrims from all over Nepal and India pay homage every year in large numbers, defying high altitudes and Himalayan arctic freezing temperatures. The main flow of pilgrims comes to be free from the chain of the life cycle and to relinquish the sin of a hundred lifetimes.
Muktinath is adorned with ancient religious temples of impressive monuments and its famous old 108 water spouts, which are one of the sources of the Kali Gandaki River, the temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, one of the three main gods in the Hindu religion (Brahma—creator, Shiva—destroyer, and Vishnu—provider).
At Muktinath, where visitors and pilgrims can witness significant natural elements in the miraculous form of flickering blue flames of natural methane gas burning on water, stone, and earth as an offering, they were said to have been first lighted by Brahma, the creator of the universe and living creatures.
The story of Muktinath and its purity goes back to the antiquity of more than 2,300 years, when both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims came on pilgrimage to observe the sight of natural power. On walks, pilgrims searched along the Kali Gandaki River valley for black glossy fossils called Shaligram (ammonite), found in abundance around the Kali Gandaki River banks.
The Muktinath Helicopter Tour starts in Pokhara, a location renowned for its stunning mountains, landscapes, peaks, and lakes. As the air journey continues, flying above high green hills covered with dense rhododendrons and pine trees, facing incredible views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, heading above the Kali Gandaki River Valley (regarded as the world's deepest gorge), and finally flying above the arid and windswept country of Mustang.
At Muktinath Temple, pay homage and pray in the main Muktinath Temple after taking a bath or washing in the icy 108 water spouts, then enter the main temple complex and visit other temples and monasteries important to Hindu and Buddhist religions.
After a spiritual journey and tour around holy Muktinath, fly back to Pokhara with a mesmerizing journey of the Holy Muktinath Pilgrimage on a helicopter.

Muktinath Visit and Exploration
As you enter the Muktinath temple premises, you are welcomed by the serene, spiritual, and religious energy. You can see pilgrims in the area who are also there for a visit. Since you are there, our guide will begin with the Muktinath tour, during which you will visit the Temple's popular landmarks and learn more about them. Here are some of the popular attractions of Muktinath:
1. The 108 Holy Water Spouts (Mukti Dhara)
The 108 Holy Water Spouts are located directly behind the Muktinath Temple, forming a semicircular row across the courtyard. In both Hinduism and Buddhism, 108 represents spiritual completeness. The spouts have bullhead linings on a black wall. The ice-cold water flows continuously from each spout originating from the Himalayan springs. Pilgrims mostly walk through all 108 spouts, believing that doing so will cleanse negative karma and lead to liberation.
2. Sacred Kunda (Two holy ponds- Mukti Kunda)
The Mukti Kunda is located after you pass the Mukti Dhara. These are two holy ponds known as Laxmi Kunda and Saraswati Kunda. After bathing in the 108 spouts, most pilgrims dive in the Kunda for spiritual purification. It is believed that diving in these ponds washes away past sins and prepares devotees spiritually before entering the Temple. So take a dip and get ready to visit the main Temple.
3. Muktinath Temple (The Main Vishnu Shrine)
Muktinath is the most notable highlight of the Muktinath area. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is designed in the Pagoda style. It has utmost religious importance in Nepal and for those who follow Hinduism. This particular Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam (Sacred places of Vishnu), which is a significant pilgrimage destination for Hindus and Buddhists. As you visit the Temple, you can see the main idol of Lord Vishnu made out of gold. The Temple's outskirts feature a statue of Garuda, the divine vehicle of Lord Vishnu. Garuda symbolizes loyalty, strength, and speed.
Also, the Temple has Buddhist lamas, reflecting Nepal's religious harmony. The lama gives you blessings after the prayer or visit to the Temple. So, you can perform darshan, offer flowers & rice grains, and recite prayers. You can also ring the bell, burn incense sticks, and butter lamps here. It is time to dive into the religious practice and seek a blessing.
4. Jwala Mai Temple (Eternal Flame Temple)
The Jwala Mai Temple is located near the water spouts, which consist of a natural, eternal flame burning from a rock wall. Natural gas emissions, a miraculous phenomenon, fuel the flame. Beneath the flame, there is a small stream of water that symbolizes the union of all the elements of earth, including water, fire, air, sky, and earth.
Inside the Temple, you can see the statues of Manjushree, Avalokiteshvara, and Vajrapani. If you kneel on the floor with your forehead almost touching the ground, you can see the eternal flame below. Also, you can burn a butter lamp for a small donation here.
5. Buddhist Monastery (Narsingh Gumba)
It is the main monastery of Muktinath, which is also known as the Temple of 1000 lamps. The monastery is dedicated to Guru Rinpoche. However, Hindus also worship here regarding Narsimha, the avatar of Lord Vishnu, as the main deity. Likewise, the monastery has a central statue of Guru Rinpoche with other deities, including Drag Po and Seng Dong.

Can we get altitude sickness during the Muktinath helicopter tour?
Altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), can occur during a Muktinath Helicopter Tour or any other activity involving a rapid ascent to high altitudes. Muktinath is around 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) in the Annapurna Region of Nepal. While helicopter tours reduce the time spent at high altitudes compared to trekking, there is still a possibility of experiencing altitude-related issues.
The likelihood of experiencing altitude sickness depends on several factors, including the individual's susceptibility, rate of ascent, duration of exposure, and overall health. Helicopter tours to high-altitude destinations like Muktinath are usually of short course, which may reduce the risk compared to prolonged stays at such altitudes.
However, altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of physical fitness or prior experience at high altitudes. Symptoms of altitude sickness can include headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. In severe cases, it can lead to more serious conditions like High-Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) or High-Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE), which are medical emergencies.
